Who we are

Who We Are

The Association of Anambra State Development Unions, hereinafter called AASDU is an umbrella body for all Anambra towns, trades and professional unions based in Lagos, Nigeria .

AASDU was established in March 1988, and was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in 1995. Membership of AASDU therefore consists of the aforementioned bodies whose accredited representatives form the AASDU Governing Council. Aside from our highly credible Board of Trustees, every sitting governor of Anambra State is constitutionally recognised during their tenure as AASDU Grand Patron. To this effect, the Anambra State Liaison Officer here in Lagos represents the Governor in our council meetings.

Anambra State:

Here’s a brief history of Anambra State in Nigeria.

  • ⁠9th century AD: The earliest signs of civilization in Anambra State can be traced back to this century, with archaeological findings in Igbo-Ukwu and Ezira revealing sophisticated administrative systems and great works of art.
  • 19th century: Great Britain recognized traditional kings and leaders in Anambra State and appointed noble leaders as Warrant Chiefs.
  • 1967-1970: Anambra State was part of the secessionist Republic of Biafra, formed by Igbo nationalists, during the Nigerian Civil War.
  • 1976: The state was formed from part of East Central State, with Enugu as its capital.
  • 1991: On August 27, the state was reorganized, and Enugu became a separate state, with Awka as the capital of the new Anambra State.

Our Projects

Promoting Peace

To promote peace, understanding and friendly co- existence between the people of Anambra State resident in Lagos on the one hand, and other citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the other, by creating a veritable forum for social and cultural interaction, cross pollination of ideas, exchange of knowledge/ know-how; presenting a platform for negotiation and peaceful resolution of socio-economic issues affecting Anambra State indigenes and Ndigbo resident in Lagos among themselves or with other Nigerians or non-Nigerians without discrimination.

Promoting Rights

To sustain, promote and protect all the rights, privileges, entitlements and lawful activities of Anambra citizens and Ndigbo living in Lagos State as provided in the Nigerian Constitution and other binding laws guiding the Association's activities.

Promoting Social Interests

To promote, protect, support and advance the social and economic interest and welfare of its members.

Supporting Governments

To promote and support State and Federal Government policies and projects aimed at the rapid development of the State and its rural areas.

Executing Programmes

To initiate, organize and execute programmes, activities and projects calculated to enhance at all times amiable brotherhood, harmony, unity, understanding and co-operation among its members and to promote social, cultural and economic well being and image of Anambra State and Nigeria in general.

Making Contributions

To make contributions for the promotion and advancement of charitable or benevolent activities and organizations.

Co-operating

To co-operate with any organization in the country with similar aims and objectives, as the Association may determine from time to time. To do all such things as are incidental or conducive to the achievement of any of the above objectives.

Participation

To promote, develop and participate in any economic activity, asset development and wealth creating venture that can be lawfully combined with the other objectives of the Association with benefits realized in it applied to generally improving the operation of the Association and the welfare of its members and other Nigerians resident in Lagos.
